John, who holds an undergraduate degree in engineering, graduate studies in both automation and computer-aided design and, is an I.T., business management, and digital transformation consultant and advisor, is leaning into HLG as our Head of Digital Strategy. In this role, John will be co-leading and shaping HLG’s technology vision and strategy through an evolving approach that will influence the business model to enhance service delivery and customer engagement while driving business growth.
With more than 30 years of experience leading and delivering technology and guiding organizations through digital transformation initiatives, John has developed strategic technology plans, implemented large-scale technology projects, and led large staff departments and key service delivery partners. John combines technical, people, and organizational management skills with experience working in complex business environments along with a strong knowledge of the national and international sporting world.
John’s passion for sport, specifically Cycling, has seen him compete at a high amateur level (a 3 time National age group champion), lead clubs, run events, coach athletes, and be elected to positions on the board of Cycling British Columbia and Cycling Canada. John held the position of President and Board Chair for 10 years at Cycling Canada and led the organization through considerable growth and transformation.
John has also worked closely in various consultative and advisory capacities with Cycling’s international governing body, Union Cyclist Internationale (UCI), based in Aigle, Switzerland, in addition to being a member of the UCI’s Track Cycling and Ethic’s commissions.
