Stu Grimson – Attorney, Analyst, Author, and Athlete – Joins HLG as Advisor & Advocate

By August 6, 2020No Comments

Horizon Leader Group (HLG) is proud to announce that Stu Grimson – Attorney, Analyst, Author, and Athlete – has joined their Board in an Advisory role. HLG is a first-of-its-kind Athlete Leadership Development Agency.

“From the moment I was first approached by HLG, I was smitten by the similarities between the company’s core aspirations and my background. As my professional hockey career was winding up, I considered myself as prepared for that transition as any other athlete I knew”, Stu commented. “However, until you actually step into the transition, you don’t realize that trying to reshape what you do, and to some degree, who you are, is such a difficult task. Especially later in life. I joined HLG to share my experiences and insights and to help athletes proactively prepare for their transition. Today’s athlete gets it, and he or she aspires to be more than an athlete, which is perfectly aligned with HLG’s Locker Room to Boardroom mandate, and mine.”
The notorious Canadian born National Hockey League enforcer played 771 games for 8 different teams including: the Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Nashville Predators.

“We’re thrilled to have Stu join our Team”, said HLG Partner Joe Jackman. “Stu is a role model for the Next-Generation athlete, as he strategically navigated his transition from the game by having a long-term career development plan. Stu will help shape our business, serve as a brand advocate, and a mentor – there are few people that are as respected and qualified to do so”.

Stu enjoyed a 14-year professional NHL career and followed it up with a return to school, which was capped by his graduation from The University of Memphis Law School. HLG will leverage his athlete perspective, his transition wisdom – he participated in the NHL’s Life After Hockey Program – and his significant business experience as a lawyer, which includes his role as a Labour Counsel with the NHL Players Association. Presently, Stu lives in Nashville with his wife Jennifer and is a Senior Colour TV Analyst at the NHL Network, and a Corporate Counsel at a Luxury Travel Club, ThirdHome.

I am very excited to be working with the HLG team and to play a role in helping athletes from all sports and all ages develop their leadership capabilities, extend their brand, and enjoy a successful and sustainable transition from sports. I believe we can make a difference in helping our athlete clients make a positive impact in their communities, and in the business world so they are able to enjoy a lasting sense of purpose, and fulfillment”, said Stu.
